Duke beat Maryland 81–62 at home to start reign 27 of the NCAAW belt, the 3rd for the franchise.

Maryland had held it since April 4, 2006, with 18 defenses over 284 days.

Duke held it for 49 days and 12 defenses, then lost it to NC State on March 3, 2007.
