The Florida Panthers claimed the Belt Holders championship with a 1-0 overtime victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center. In a defensive battle that saw both goalies stonewall their opponents through regulation, the game remained scoreless through all three periods before heading to overtime.
Gustav Forsling played hero for the Panthers, scoring the lone goal in overtime with an assist from Carter Verhaeghe. Forsling led all skaters with one point in the tight-checking affair that saw neither team find the back of the net until the extra frame.
With the victory, Florida wrests the lineal championship belt away from Carolina, becoming the new holders. The Hurricanes were shut out on home ice as the Panthers' defensive effort and timely overtime strike proved to be the difference in this belt-deciding contest.
